Year 9

So here you are…. the last year of Key Stage 3… you know that this year is really important… cuz your teachers keep saying it your folks at home keep on about it……..

Anyway this page should help!! where you can find homework help…… find out about forthcoming events.. ask questions about hums…. have a go at the games… have a look.. you never know you might enjoy it!!

YEAR 9 HOMEWORK 4 – THE USA 

Set: Week commencing 08.03.10Complete: Week commencing 15.03.10

Hand in: Week commencing 22.03.010

 Learning objectives; - 

  • To find out about a country that is highly developed
  • To use research skills to acquire knowledge of the USA
  • To present your findings in a number of different ways

Task 1

(You must do this task) 

  • Collect some key facts about the USA– e.g. area, size of population, religion, language spoken, resources, landscape, etc.
  • On a map of N. America, provided by your teacher, label the capital, other major cities, surrounding countries, seas, high land, rivers, lakes, etc.

(You will be given a date after school when Humanities staff will be available with atlases to help with this if you need it)

Task 2

(You must do this task)

  •  Choose two contrasting states of the USA, e.g. one from the North, one from the South
  • Mark them on your map
  • Compare the two states using the sheet provided by your teacher

Task 3

(You must do this task)

  •  Collect 5 pieces of evidence that show that the USA is highly developed – e.g. life expectancy, people per doctor, percent homes with clean water supply, etc.
  • Show your findings using tables or graphs

Do ONE of these tasks

  •  Make a collage of pictures about the USA
  • Compare life of a child America and Britain
  • Make an in-depth study of a famous American. Explain why this person is significant
  • Research an American company that operates all over the world, e.g. MacDonald’s, Nike
  • Present your findings about that company in a way to suit you
  • Research an aspect of American sport, music or popular culture. Present your findings in a way to suit you

You have access to computers in the Resource Centre, at the Homework Club and in room 49 (must be given permission by your teacher, and supervised

    • Watch this space… I’m guessing that you are year 9 which should mean that in the coming few weeks we have some really exciting things planned which means doing more practical out of classroom learning, also we will be developing humanities use of ICT and creating a webpage.

      Hopefully something for everyone

  6. I can not seem to find any information online about primary, secondary and tertiary classification of industry. Perhaps you tought this when I was ill?

  8. You need to put the new homework on here. I have lost the homework i have done and the sheet. I dont know if i can get it in by friday :S
